Gratitude

The dictionary definition of gratitude is “an agreeable emotion consisting of or accompanied with goodwill to a benefactor, and a disposition to make a suitable return of benefits or services, or when no return can be made, with a desire to see the benefactor prosperous and happy.” Gratitude interventions make big impacts in our lives. If you thank someone who has never been thanked, not only he, even you can feel his happiness.

Gratitude is expressed in different ways. Publicly expressed gratitude is expressed loudly so that it doesn’t miss the public. At the personal level, gestures such as a smile or a warm look can serve the purpose. The most important ingredient of gratitude is its sincerity. An insincere gratitude can do the opposite of what it is intended for.

Acknowledgment is one of the ways of expressing gratitude. The purpose of acknowledgments, some believe, has more to do with self-promotion. This view suggests that authors promote not only their books, but also themselves through lengthy acknowledgments.
